Christmas – before and after!

A week before Christmas comes my favourite thing about Christmas….decorating the tree! Luana came over to help, but first we needed to get into our Xmas tree decorating outfits…

While decorating we looked through all the decorations my parents kept from christmas past…..there were some new ones from this year, and from each year…ahhhhh yes christmas is all about “junk” but beautiful junk. Here are our favourite ornaments that best represents Christmas in the 1970s…

At least this year my decorations didn’t get removed and put into the back. Unlike last year where my stupid roommate and her mom took the decorations off the tree I bought – I shall never forget the rudeness!! pffffffffff this year the tree was untainted.

and then it happened. Christmas came!!!! and went sooooooo quickly!

my whole family was really happy to see all the presents, but my Cat Chanel showed the most enthusiasm as she hid within the presents….what a character that Chanel the lion cat!

and another Christmas has come to an end..there was presents, and family, and TURKEY, and relaxing and TURKEY leftovers and of course a little partying on the side, because you can’t leave DANCING out of a vacation. Now I am back at work until New Years which will be the next big celebration! My last new years in Vienna.

Then off to Rome for an Italian adventure <3 I hope everyone is having a great holiday season!!!

Winter Wonderland in MQ

before the plastic winter wonderland BURNED DOWN in Museums Quartiers…it was funtimes!! I went sometime in November with Luana. Winter in Vienna is quite fun. It is customary to have outdoor venues where they serve gluwein and punsch! You have to pay extra for the mug which you can get your money back when you return it, OR you can keep it

Museums Quartier is a trendy hangout for artsy types and is really fun to hang for a nice low key night out! All winter season they have a program called Winter im MQ. I don’t know whats coming up, all i know is when we went it was beautiful, they really know how to create a winter atmosphere in vienna!

As you can see the little hut is made out of plastic…a few weeks later it burned down! My friend Mandy saw the aftermath, it turned into a huge mound of plastic with things sticking out! Winter im MQ still goes on…without the wonderland hut! <3

It is not winter until you officially have PUNSCH! they have many flavours berry, apple/orange, gluwein.

What is punsch? It’s like hot apple cider, but its alcoholic and comes in many flavours. Theres nothing like getting warm with it….Punsch is served almost in every corner now…it’s awesome!

and a few Weeks Back It was Luana’s Bday!!

So she threw a party! It was awesome….I love parties when there is a dance crew! There was also cake and funtimes….I especially like the fact that my lady gaga accessories from Halloween got some use. ahhhhh it was a lovely day indeed, and a great excuse to dress up.

I still Cannot believe Mandy’s last day is today She was such a great friend at the UN. Luana & Brian will continue to stay which is awesome cause they have gotten to be great friends too <3

A Very Cara Halloween!

So its been a while since my last post, and well since the weather is getting grey over here in Vienna, so is the life. HOWEVER – still managed to russle up some great Halloween spirit with close friends <3

It all started with the search for pumpins at Nasche Markt:

This was followed by sturm drinking….

What is Sturm? A young wine, tastes kind of like grapejuice. Whatever you do, DO NOT DRINK A LITRE in one sitting, it gives you a stomach ache like the kind you get when you eat too many grapes the night before….

Anyways, after purchasing 3 litres of sturm in the mark and our pumpkings, we all gathered at a friend’s house for Halloween PUMPKING CARVING!

Halloween was still a week away, HOWEVER we wanted to get in the spirit a little early by dressing silly, having a few drinks, laughing, and working on halloween crossword puzzles.

Someone asked me (knowing I am a HUGE crazed lady gaga fan, and that’s what I was going for halloween) are you going to make a lady gaga pumpkin too? It was a joke question, until I was like UMMM YES – that’s genius!

This girl is making me a dress! A lady gaga inspired dress I can debut halloween! I am soooooo stoked! We had a little creative session on the weekend! I REALLY Hope I can find the proper hair extensions, wigs, and accessories this weekend!

DSCN0763 I wrote a little story with my neice called “Cara and The Witch” a narrative that she made up. Where Cara with the purple hair gets put in a dungeon by a witch, but then she gives the witch a potion. The witch becomes beautiful….and transforms into a pretty red haired girl, aka “the new girl in town.” The last time I spoke with her she said next time we hang we will make chapter 2: “The New girl in Town” bahahahahaha i love it! In between the partying & family time….was CANADIAN FOOD TIME! which means poutine & diners….ohhhhh my!! My arteries loved me this visit to Canada…so did my brain cells & liver teheee. Well what is a trip back home w/o great company & indulging in good ‘ol diner eats. ITS NOTHING!

Ah yessss my other bestie, KIMBERLY (aka the pink ranger…) took me on my first Winner’s Shoppping spree. Well…those of you who know me….know that I get really flustered and overwhelmed in these types of searching for fashion treasure stores…Kim’s solution to it:

hehehee oh man! I wish I could spend halloween with her, she is one of the funniest, quirquist, silliest girls i know….but its totally encouraged, i don’t think we could be friends otherwise

The winners couldn’t last forever….I am more of a DVD sale girl….and I kept talking over and over and over about how we should go to Walmart to Buy DVDS! Kim did not understand the urgency. So I finally explained the obsession with her.

see in Vienna we don’t get alot of North American Media…all I get is Austrian MTV and movie streaming, but its not the same as sifting through 5$ dvds at walmart, because then you don’t know what types of treasures and forgotten movies you may stumble upon! You CAN rent movies here….but its expensive and there is only ONE english rental store i know of.

We sifted through them…I ended up getting JURASSIC PARK trilogy (for 20$), My Girl, 007 Die another day, and wedding crashers, annnnd a Scanner Darkly. NON of which I would think of downloading or watching streaming…

It really sounds silly. BUT you have no idea how many hours i take sifting through movies online i COULD watch – there is just too much selection. NOTHING replaces digging through that 5$ bin at WalMart…NOTHING!

I know the WalMart corporation has sooo many negative implications for globalization, human rights, and the environment…but it is my extreme guilty pleasure (amongst other things!)

DVDs & ME! Notice my excitment...now THATS THE LOOK OF SATISFACTION RIGHT THERE (also notice another guilty pleasure....McDonalds) lol

next up GRIND WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

because really….what visit to Ottawa would be complete without making an outing to BABYLON?! NOT MINE!

Ottawa, Tattoos, Cara Country Kidnappings, Karaoke, and Friends oh my!

From one country to the other….I met up with Chrissy at her Work to go see her new place in St. Albert, Ontario…aka cheese region

Her line of work requires her to pick up kids at the trainstation…yessss there is a sign! I think I was more excited to help hold the sign then she was. weeeeeeeee!!

It was so nice of Chrissy to have me over to her lovely St. Albert home for a visit and a night! We practiced our rockstar playstation skills, and I practiced my culture shock of her many remotes & buttons in her home! The next day we went to see a psychic eeeeeeeepppp! It was very spiritual. but shhhhhhhh all predictions are documented in my private journal. She did say my life is at a stand still for now….and I need to be patient…and lots of other things in my hour and half reading…but enough of this!

Now to my OTTAWA adventure! My quarters at the YMCA! Many people asked WHY did I stay there? Well 1) it was cheap! 2) it was at the heart of downtown 3) no curfew 4) no fuss no muss, all my stuff in one spot, and a great homebase

The first day in Ottawa I spent with my one of my best friend’s Monroe. We got tattooed! It was my first tattoo so it was very sentimental. I chose a yellow rose – for friendship. She got one too. I know cheesy right….but if anything were to happen – the yellow rose represents friendship but not just hers…the fact that all my long time friends are in Ottawa – these are the friends I hold the deepest love with. Those who know me in and out, those who know how crazy CARAVISION can be….those who were around LONG before CARAVISION…back when it was Cara Beara of love and affection <3

I also wanted to get the tattoo in the most non-invasive place as possible. and where else would that be but LOWER BACK! but WAIT all girls have it in the middle on their lower back which is also quite widely known as a TRAMP STAMP….ewwwww I didn’t want that…so I cheated and did it to the side

WOW! what a painful sit in. The first part (outline) wasn’t that bad….but once the skin was all tender and sore…doing the colour was ROUGH! every five minutes I was like HOW MUCH IS DONE HOW MUCH IS DONE?!? I’m sure I scared all tattoo candidates cause I was at the VERY front of the shop. Monroe sat by me the whole time reminding me: “You want it to be complete right?” “Think about how beautiful it will be!”

enter KARAOKE! yea…so I forgot about my camera, and I also forgot about KARAOKE b/c I was SO HAPPY to see all of my friends in one place! I was just so happy to visit with everyone! Thanks Veljko, Johnny, Scott, Lisa, Kerri, Harry D, Monroe for coming out!! and of course Kenny (who kidnapped me shortly after <3).

I was SO HAPPY to see everyone….that I forgot about Karaoke…oh well! Although I think Monroe was most upset about the Karaoke forgetting…as she left in a jiffy….SORRY we will do KARAOKE another time promise!

Christina & Joe Tie the Knot <3

My word of the day was: omg “>omg “>omg “>omg”>omg”>omgomg “>omg “>omg “>omg omg omg omg omg at every moment. A sight that could bring a joyful tear to any eye (including mine). Everytime I looked at her…OMG! I have never seen Chis look so beautiful! Everything was perfect – they were so lucky.

Joes family was AWESOME by the way! I got along with his Aunties really well! It was weird to be the only single girl there – BUT I was the representative long time friend. Knowing the bride the bride since highschool. We were the “trouble makers” together, each others “partners in crime.” Now one has settled down, but with someone very suiting! A beautiful day & a beautiful couple!

The whole time…..throughout the whole day…I swear it looked like just out of a bridal magazine….I just wanted to take pictures of everything. It was so happy and beautiful…I am really stoked they got together! I even got to speak at the reception.

Prater Fair Grounds – A Peek at a 1970s Sinister Horror Movie

So the day I met Emma….I thought she would get a kick outta the Prater Fairgrounds in Vienna. How might I explain the atmosphere of this place….

A retro, sinister, cheesy, and tacky midway which is open all the time. It is reminiscent of a zombie movie in the 1970s….or Buffy the Vampire Slayer Circa 1992:

There are inexplicable things at the Prater…..along with the classic fair atmosphere. It is these inexplicable things that give the prater so much CHARACTER!

BUT I WANNA GO ON THAT ONE!

THE CLOWN LOOP DE LOOP!

Ok so these seem like normal fairground occurances….but then you run into the statues, and the weird “it’s a small world rides,” which don’t really make sense at all! However, they are still enjoyable in some strange way – why? It’s the fact that they exist at all. I mean WHAT WHERE THEY THINKING? It seems to be that whomever created such masterpieces must have been on some sort of hallucigents, or possibly had a little more than one voice in their mind. EITHER WAY! I thought it was amazing….definately remiscent of Rob Zombie’s House of 1000s corpses for some reason…

To make sense of this madness – we thought we would check out the warped it’s a small world ride. Which had these disgustingly horribly beautiful dolls on display in the front:

The first car of the ride was headed by a blue smurf – YES THE BLUE SMURF WOULD LEAD US TO CLARITY!

Once on the ride – things were still unclear. Was it a collaboration of all fairytales? or reject fairytales gone bad? Or was it the result of what fairytales would be like if they were for a grown ups audience that happen to be on some sort of drugs? or was it FAIRY TALES FROM HELL?!

BLOG REVIVAL!

Ok…..so its been A WHILE! I am completely out of sulk mode now. I have been to Canada and back and my spirit is 100% BACK! <3

Thank you to all my loved ones back home for the visit! I AM SORRY TO THOSE I MISSED, I had 7 days to cram in everything…..and I tried so much to the point I am sick now…but IT WAS WORTH IT!

I am going to try my best and write more because well….its therapeutic and I need to document things!! also I have been receiving complaints that my blog isn’t updated….SO THIS MARKS THE START OF A MASSIVE UPDATE!!!So where did I leave off last…..

Before going to Canada I had the privilege of meeting EMMA BELLartist in residence at MUSEUMS Quartier (aka… my fav hang out in Vienna). I met this rad chick on www.couchsurfing.com as she needed someone quirky just like her to show her around VIENNA!

Naturally….the Prater is where I wanted to take her…so that is what I did…

If you must know why she was in Vienna…it was to participate in Vienna Fashion Week so cool! Unfortunately, I missed her Wiener debut cause I was in Canada…. HOWEVER we shall reunite this weekend for party time
